Rodent Infestation
Marmots are large, stocky mammals with bushy tails. Most marmots weigh between 4 to 5 kg. They usually have the same build as an average house cat. Marmots are rodent of the squirrel family. Marmots hibernate in burrows for several months in cold winter seasons. While inactive when in hibernation, they will survive on stored fat and slow their vitals for the hibernation period. Aside from eating your plants, marmots are not dangerous to human, Although they can bite, if you try to feed them food or disturb them.
Infestation Origin:
It is recommended to get rid of the things that attracted them in the first place; like a source of food and water. Like all rodents, marmots are attracted to food, and they can end up in the area where human have set a home. Block all entry point to keep them away from your home. Marmots teeth constantly grow, and for that reason, they must chew a lot on anything accessible. They are usually not a danger to human, unless a stranger enters their nest or territory. Beware of marmots been a carrier of yersinia pestis and a source of human plague in Mongolia.
Infestation Preventive Care:
To prevent marmots and other rodents infestations; Remove all source of food that attracted them in the first place. Live trapping is an effective solution to capture them. Marmots are not fond of the spices used by human in cooking. try sprinkling pepper and other spices; including any kind of fragrant herbs around your yard. Traps and fumigation are an effective way to get rid of marmots infestations.
